What we do
The work
Whole products
Someone has to own the architecture, write the code, wire up the pipeline and get the thing in front of users. We take that on end to end — and we are just as happy embedded in a team that already has momentum.
Public services
Ten years inside UK government delivery. GDS patterns, accessibility that actually gets audited, code in the open on GitHub. It teaches you to build things that survive scrutiny.
Rescue and modernisation
Established estates moved to the cloud while the business carries on running. One was an £11m system picked up years after the original team had moved on, and brought back into active development.
Mobile and games
A handheld for FedEx. A racing game that went to number one. An iOS puzzle game in development right now. Small screens have their own rules.
Selected work
Some of the bigger ones
Department for Education
Aug 2015 – Oct 2024
Led architecture and development of major public-facing government websites across several programmes, including Find training and employment schemes, Support for Your Family, and much of the Apprenticeship Service.
Next PLC
Sep 2011 – Aug 2015
Led development of the responsive rebuild of Next.co.uk — one of the hundred most-visited UK sites — and of Next Flowers.
Aitken Campbell
Feb 2002 – Feb 2004
Designed and built a distributed order-placing system connecting brokers and market makers, which at the time carried roughly a third of all equity trades through the London Stock Exchange.
Psion
Apr 2000 – Feb 2001
Led ROM releases and OS adaptations for an early tablet (netPad) and a custom handheld (powerPad) built for FedEx.
Codemasters
Nov 1997 – Sep 1998
Worked on TOCA 2: Touring Cars for Windows and PlayStation, which reached number one in the UK charts.
Our own product
A puzzle game for iPhone and iPad
Pour colours between vessels until each one holds a single shade. It has a duel mode, themes that each change the rules rather than the palette, and boards that explain themselves without a tutorial. Frozen liquid sits next to a lit brazier, which is how you know it thaws.
In development now for iPhone and iPad. The title comes later.
